The Wasatch Mountains are popular in winter and summer, easily accessed…classic peaks, lots of biking and hiking trails, wilderness areas.

This is one of the most spectacular places in the world, and I’m around it every day.

Alaska is our biggest, buggiest, boggiest state. Texas remains our largest unfrozen state. But mountainous Utah, if ironed out flat, would take up more space on a map than either.

Who is "Adventures in Utah"?
We are a group of professional guides and outdoor enthusiasts who are dedicated to providing you with the best experience possible. Our focus is on sharing the wonders and accessible adventures found in the Wasatch Mountains with guests from all over the world. We have been guiding outdoor adventures around the world for over 20 years.

What is the weather like in Utah?
Although at our base in Big Cottonwood Canyon we regularly receive over 500 inches of snow per year, most of our precipitation comes in the winter months. That means that your summer experience in the mountains will generally be filled with sunny, shirtsleeve weather.

How do I know if I am fit enough to hike?
Our small groups and personalized approach enables us to tailor the activities to the skills of the participants. We’re flexible and can slow the pace or shorten the hike to meet almost any skill level.

What wildlife I am likely to see on a hike? Any dangers?
In any given week you may see moose, deer, coyotes, mountain goats, marmots and elk, as well as many birds and other small mammals. Of those, only the moose poses any serious risk. Our guides will teach you how to respond safely and appropriately in wildlife encounters.

What trees and wildflowers will I see?
The Wasatch Mountains contain the most diverse alpine ecosystem in the Western US. You can find hundreds of wildflower, plant, and tree species, and our expert guides will help you get the most out of your time in the mountains.

Will the elevation cause me any problems?
Our base of activities and accommodations are at an elevation near 8000 feet. During the day we often hike at elevations up to 11,000 feet, and occasionally, higher.

What do I need to bring with me?
Bring comfortable hiking shoes or boots, a small daypack, and clothing suitable to hiking in the mountains—and don’t forget your swimsuit. Special gear and protective equipment (such as helmets, pads, paddles, flotation devices) for all activities is provided as needed at no additional cost to you. You’ll receive pre-trip instructions and a detailed packing list prior to your trip. Additionally, our office staff is always available to answer specific questions on what to bring.

If I want to stay extra days can that be arranged?
Yes. We are delighted to assist you with add-ons and special arrangements. You might want an extra day or two in Salt Lake City or a continued adventure in the redrock canyons and national parks of southern Utah and the Colorado Plateau. Just give us a call or send us an email and we’ll be glad to help.

How large are the groups?
We keep our group sizes small, between 6 and 10 guests. This allows us to offer you personalized service and provides optimal conditions for wildlife viewing and outdoor enjoyment.

Can I set up my own group?
Absolutely. We can also offer accommodations such as a 1,2, or 3-bedroom condo and a lodge which are well suited to family groups and groups of friends. Let us know your preferences, and we’ll create a custom program ideally suited to your needs.
